Set in 1968, this is the coming-of-age story of The Sapphires, a Supremes cover group who toured Vietnam performing for the troops on the frontline. Wearing uniforms of sequins and armed only with microphones, the four young Aboriginal women suddenly get the chance to change their tune, their clothes, and their lives; channelling their inner divas against the backdrop of personal change and massive social upheaval in a story inspired by real events.
Tackling sensitive issues like race and the politics of war,The Sapphires cleverly remains light-hearted and life-affirming, celebrating all the joy and heartbreak of family and chasing dreams, to the soundtrack of the Motown hits that defined a generation.
